Parking. The Park Authority says parking is available along North Shore Drive, with a nearby lot. Its directions: from the market parking area, turn left on North Shore Drive and go through the light by the Fellowship House; take the first left and go up the hill by the office building to park; then walk down the steps behind Washington Plaza Baptist Church to the plaza and turn left into the market.

Fruit this year. A late spring freeze hurt many Mid-Atlantic orchards, the Park Authority says, so peaches, cherries, plums, nectarines and apples may be harder to find. Some vendors may bring fruit from regional farm partners and will tell you where it was grown.

SNAP, seniors and food donations

  • SNAP match: use SNAP benefits at the Reston market and get up to $40 in extra fruits and vegetables free each visit, funded by Virginia Fresh Match and community partners (details).
  • Seniors: Virginia’s Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, also called Farm Market Fresh, gives approved participants $50 in vouchers for fruits, vegetables and cut herbs at participating stalls.
  • Nourish Your Neighbor: on the last market day of each month, shoppers can buy extra produce to donate on the spot to a local food pantry. At Reston that is Saturday, Oct. 31, this season.

Food scrap drop-off

The Park Authority collects food scraps at its markets during the season. Reston is not one of the markets with an extended drop-off after the season ends, so after Nov. 21 use the food scraps drop-off at the county’s I-66 Transfer Station.
