Fairfax County Park Authority

The Park Authority runs camps across the county, from nature and sports to arts, STEM and chess. For 2026 it split registration by location: “green” location camps opened Tuesday, Feb. 3, and “blue” location camps Thursday, Feb. 5, both at 9 a.m.; summer waitlists opened Friday, May 1. The county posts a camp guide, a sortable camp spreadsheet and a location map ahead of registration, and families need a Parktakes house account before the day. Extended care adds an hour morning or afternoon for full-day campers.

Reston Association

Reston Association runs its own Reston Camps program each summer; see reston.org for the 2027 schedule and registration.

Pools

Reston Association pools. RA operates 15 community pools. Each April it publishes the season’s pool schedule, with opening dates, hours and a holiday exceptions calendar; pools open in phases as weather and staffing allow. Some pools close in August as lifeguards return to school, while several stay open through Labor Day weekend and a few into September, RA says. The 2025 season ended Sunday, Sept. 21. RA members get recreation passes, covering pools, tennis and pickleball courts, at no extra charge; non-members and guests can buy passes online or at RA Headquarters, 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive.

The Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole, Lake Fairfax Park, 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive. The Park Authority’s Old West-themed water park has the 725-foot Rattlesnake River lazy river, slides off Pete’s Peak, the Boomtown water playground and Tenderfoot Pond for toddlers. It opened Saturday, May 23, for 2026. Discounted Gold Rush season passes ran through Memorial Day at $111 for one person, $177 for a family of two and $65 for each additional person; ages 2 and younger enter free. The park is closed for the season now; 2027 dates come in the spring.
