Fairfax County Public Schools’ spring break runs Monday, March 22, to Friday, March 26, 2027. Reston’s schools are all FCPS schools, so this is the week to plan around. Easter falls on Sunday, March 28, right after the break; see our Easter in Reston page for egg hunts.

Camps

Fairfax County Park Authority. The Park Authority says it hosts camps whenever Fairfax public schools close, from single-day to multi-day sessions; search the “Camps School Year” category. For 2026, the county split registration by location: “green” location camps opened Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 9 a.m. and “blue” location camps Thursday, Feb. 5, at 9 a.m., with spring waitlists the next day. Expect a similar pattern for 2027; advance registration is required, online or at 703-222-4664.

Reston Community Center runs a big summer camp program from RCC Hunters Woods; check its camp page for any spring break sessions as the 2027 schedule is posted.

Things to do over the break

Lake Fairfax Park, 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive. The park’s campground, picnic areas, playground, trails and skatepark are open year-round. The Water Mine water park does not open until Memorial Day weekend.

Frying Pan Farm Park, 2709 West Ox Road, Herndon. The Park Authority’s working farm is a short drive west of Reston, with farm animals, wagon ride tours and a visitor center; call 703-437-9101. The farm’s carousel was removed after damage in the January 2026 winter storm, the county says.

Colvin Run Mill, 10017 Colvin Run Road, Great Falls. A 19th-century gristmill and historic house just east of Reston, run by the Park Authority, with tours and programs.

Walker Nature Center, 11450 Glade Drive. Reston Association’s nature center hosts family programs through the year; see the Reston Association calendar.

Reston Museum, 1639 Washington Plaza on Lake Anne Plaza. Open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; closed Mondays. See our history and landmarks guide.

The W&OD Trail. The paved Washington & Old Dominion trail crosses Reston and is open 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Our walking and biking trails guide has loops and parking.

A movie. LOOK Cinemas is at 11940 Market St. in Reston Town Center.

What is open during the break

Spring break is a school holiday only. County offices, Fairfax County libraries, including Reston Regional, Park Authority rec centers and Fairfax Connector buses keep their regular schedules that week, and county trash and recycling pickup runs as normal. Most Reston homes use private haulers, often through the homeowners association; see our trash and recycling guide.

Easter 2026 fell on April 5. Around it, the Park Authority’s 2026 spring events list included an Easter egg hunt at Colvin Run Mill on Saturday, April 4, and Bluebells at the Bend at Riverbend Park in Great Falls on Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

What this means for you

Book camps in early February, when registration opens. If you are staying home, the farm, the mill and the trails are the closest outings; the water park and Reston Association pools are still closed in March.

Is the Reston Town Center ice rink open over spring break?

No. The 2026-27 skating season runs Nov. 6 to March 14, weather permitting, so the rink closes a week before FCPS spring break starts.

Do FCPS students have other days off in spring 2027?

Yes. Tuesday, March 9, is a holiday for Eid al-Fitr, and Monday, April 19, and Tuesday, April 20, are student holidays on the FCPS calendar.
